Visual Literacy Projects

Moodle will accept Visual Literacy projects that are 20MB or smaller.  If your project is larger than that please bring it on a flash drive to class for me.  Except me to keep your drive till the following class period so I have time to view the project.  I would need the project on Monday, Oct 25.  So to be sure your project was done on October 24, you'll still need to upload something to Moodle.  Save the file as a .jpg and upload that.  This way I can see that you have completed it on time and I can grade it from the flash drive you provide.

Thanks,
Leslie

Grades

If I've asked you to make changes to an assignment you need to let me know when you have made those changes.  I can't go back and recheck everyone's assignment to give you a new grade.  This has to be your responsibility.  I still have a whole bunch of blogs that were supposed to be updated and have no grades or low grades.  Please tell me if you've fixed them via email.

Thanks,

Leslie

On Monday, September 6

I leave for London.  So I'll be out of contact for about 24 hours (maybe).  I just want you all to be aware that if you email me with questions on Monday (which is a holiday so I'm guessing you won't), I'll be in the plane and won't answer.

But I'll be on the ground on Tuesday and back online so keep working on your assignments and let me know how I can help!

Due Dates

Are now posted on our class website.  You can find them in one of 3 places...

Under the syllabus which can be found by pressing the resource link on the left side of the main page, under Assignments (which is also under resources like the syllabus) and in the week that it will be due or sometimes the week before depending on the time you might need to do the assignment.  These will be highlighted in bright red text so you don' miss it.

If we need to change them for any reason later - well discuss it in class but for now they should be solid!

How to Embed Video

Sometimes you may want to embed a video, and sometimes you may want to link to it or share it in another way. Embedded videos can be played on any Web page or site that supports embedding content, it looks better than a link, it keeps your reader on "your page," and it's easy to do!

Here is how you would embed video into a blog post.

Step 1. Go to http://www.youtube.com
Step 2. Find the video you want to embed.
Step 3. Copy the Code in Embed (at bottom of video screen is a button that says embed)
Step 4. Go back to your blog post > click edit HTML > Paste the Embed Code Here

That's it. You're done!  Then just publish your post.
Enjoy my embedded video below.

I guess I forgot...

To tell you about tagging.

When you make your weekly blog posts another requirement is they need to have three tags.  Accroding to Wikipedia a tag is a non-hierarchical keyword or term assigned to a piece of information (such as an Internet bookmark, digital image, or computer file). This kind of metadata helps describe an item and allows it to be found again by browsing or searching. Tags are generally chosen informally and personally by the item's creator or by its viewer, depending on the system.

In order to tag your post use the box at the bottom of the composition box that says "Labels".  You can type in your tags and separate them by commas so that they will appear at the bottom of your post in list form.  See below for my tags on THIS post.

Remember tags should be relevant to the content.

Thanks for reminding me about this Shelby!

Please remember...

First Set of Learning Blogs Due September 26, 2010 by 11:59 pm

Did you know...

The blogging requirements for this class are as follows:

Learning Entry Blogs - Each blog check is worth 100 points (10% each x 3).
You will have a Learning Entries Blog using Blogger that will be checked at three different points during the semester. It is advisable to complete these posts as you work through the weekly modules. The posts you make to your Learning Entries Blog will cover the online content of this course as well as information from class discussions and activities.

* For each Learning Entries Blog check, you must have at least 4 posts that cover the content of those weeks. This information can be taken from readings, presentations, videos, and other resources provided in the online content. You will have other, specific posts to add to your blog that will not be included in these five; they are noted as such in the weekly modules. Your post should be titled in such a way that it is clear as to which week or content topic you are discussing and it must have at least three tags. Also, all posts should meet professional standards in appearance, content, and quality. [5 points per post = 20 points]
* Each post must include at least one separate paragraph summarizing the content covered. [10 points per post = 40 points]
* Each post must include a separate paragraph relating that content to your major field i.e. how you would use it, how it applies or doesn’t, etc. [5 points per post = 20 points]
* Each post must include at least one outside resource that relates to the content or extends your understanding of it in some way. This could be a link to a website or page not covered in class, an embedded or linked video from YouTube or Vimeo or elsewhere online, an image, an audio file, or a link to a PDF article. You may not use work you’ve created for this course as an outside resource. You must give the source of your chosen resource. Additionally, you must give a statement in a separate paragraph describing the resource you chose and a rationale for choosing it (why it relates or why you chose it). Your chosen resource does not have to relate to your major field but it does have to connect to the content covered in your post. [5 points per post = 20 points]

Lessons from the Road

Since the next few weeks we'll be working on this class in cyberspace and I'll be working from the road I want to use this space as an additional place for you to get help, find resources and contact me. So I've created this blog and the students in my EME 2040 classes this Fall (2010) can now follow me on my travels, as well as contact me here with questions.
